Smoking and Impotence

I’m a smoker of nearly 20 years luckily i am not impotent -  so whats the story

No one disputes that smoking is bad for you anymore but just how bad for you and in how many ways is just becoming clear.

However, it was at one time an accepted habit and even seen on TV (oh those great non politically correct days), smoking is now considered a health hazard not only to the individual but also to those around them. However, according to a recent study from Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center – smoking and impotence can have a direct link according to John Spangler, M.D.

smoking and impotence

Smoking constricts blood vessels and can inhibit the flow of blood necessary to achieve an erection causing what is known as penile dysfunction. In conjunction with other risks for ED such as diabetes or high blood pressure, smoking can lead to impotence.

Not only are smoking and impotence linked but also smoking can cause a decrease in the quality of sperm. Some of the chemicals from smoking are shown to cause permanent damage to DNA in sperm. Now, it seems prudent to not only give up smoking for the kid’s health, but before the kids are conceived for their health.

Impotence is best treated by prevention.

A diabetic for instance controlling their blood sugar and exercising regularly can help avoid impotence and a person who suffers from hypertension should exercise right and take their medication to avoid the issue.

Smoking of course should be avoided for both these groups. As for a smoker, there is no time like today to practice prevention since smoking and impotence have been shown to have a direct link.

It is far better in most men’s minds to fight the smoking habit now, than to later have to fight impotence, which even with treatment can be problematic and affect every part of their lives. Smokers who already experience erectile dysfunction should quit because it is shown to exacerbate the condition.

I will carry on smoking of course until i decide to give up! … again
