Aphrodisiacs Are Back
Throughout history, many folklore’s and cultures are said to have a mention of sexual matters. Aphrodisiacs thus gain importance as they are said to be elements that tend to increase the sexual libido of an individual. “Aphrodisiac” is derived from the name of the Greek goddess of love and sexuality named “Aphrodite”. It refers to products and elements that increase eroticism in a couple’s sexual life.

Oysters is said to be an aphrodisiac and was labelled so as it was said to resemble the female sex organ. More often than not, sexual appetite starts in the mind rather than the body, that is probably why people associated mussels with sexuality and oysters are said to have a psychological effect on the libido. Apart from that, it is said to have a good amount of zinc which is important to increase libido. Men lacking zinc are said to grow impotent and thus any food rich in zinc is coined to be an aphrodisiac and oysters happen to be full of the mineral.
The sexual libido of men is found to decrease if they are with the same partner for a long time. Thus sexually suggestive food helps to spice it up for them. Different foods are called aphrodisiacs because of their sexually suggestive nature. Asparagus, onions, bananas, carrots and oysters are said to remind us of sexual organs and are hence known as erogenous foods in some places. Other than that, eggs and caviar remind us of the reproductive system. Apples, ginger, grapes, garlic, beans, cherries, leeks and dates are also other notable foods. There is no evidence or proof that these products increase the pleasure in the act of love making. But it often happens that a couple is in a mood to play around after having these products. Moreover, believing that it increases your sexual pleasure and desire is no harm if it works.
Alcohol is known to have a relaxing effect on the mind and body. It is considered to be an aphrodisiac as it reduces inhibition and drives one to do things she/he wouldn’t do in a sobered state. It changes the perception of things of a person which is mistaken for it enhancing the libido.
