Is this sexual harrassment?
So there’s this male health teacher at my high school, who teaches co-ed classes. He has recently made up a new rule that NO ONE can leave his classroom to go to the restroom, under any circumstances, even though the school has bathroom passes which allows you to leave the class to go. He said that the girls in his class "cannot use their period as an excuse", unless they warn him beforehand. He went on to say that if we let him know when we start our menstrual cycle, that is the ONLY way he will let us go. Not even if we tell him during class when we need to go. Could this be considered sexual harassment? Are there any rules preventing him from doing this?
Thanks, those are good answers. Honestly though, a very small amount of people ask to use the restroom. He plays favorites quite often, and his favorites get away with anything they want. So I have a feeling some students will have the "privelidge" of using the restroom.

I understand that kids abuse bathroom privileges, but this is unacceptable and embarrassing to the girls in his class. You need to share this with your parents and have them address this issue with the school administration. When you are menstruating is nobodies business but your own. If they cannot come up with a better way for him to control abuse of bathroom privileges, suggest that he hands out 3 halls passes at the beginning of the term to each student. Once those 3 are gone they are gone. Kids use passes wisely when given limited amounts and yet they still have the ability to use the restroom in an emergency.
sure is wrong whatever it is, place a big bag of dog sh1t in his office
consider talking to someone above him, as in higher ranking, about this. because if you have to go to the bathroom, you have to go. period or not. and if worst comes to worse i would leave no matter what he said, thats ridiculous. and that seems really uncomfortable to be talking to your male teacher about your menstrual cycle. mention that to authorities too, that is just weird.
it’s definitely not sexual harassment.
he’s treating guys and girls pretty much equally… ironic how that’s what women have been fighting for for decades
Before it is harrassment, it is illegal. Let the school know. His policy is actually dangerous.
no that its not sexual harassment its rape
No, it isn’t sexual harrassment, but it is bad that he won’t let anyone use the restroom! Especially since he is a health teacher! He should know that if you don’t go when you have to, that you could get a bladder infection! If you ask and say it is an emergency and that you really have to go, and he says no, just go! Don’t let him stop you! If he starts yelling at you or lecturing you, then point out the obvious that he should be keeping you healthy and letting you go! If he gets you in trouble, then complain to you parents, let them know what is going on and then report him to the school principal! He should not be keeping you from going!
If you or anyone else says that their bladder is stinging or burning or hurting when they urinate, it means that they have a bladder infection! Cranberry juice is good and helps prevent bladder infections!
Not harassment but discrimination since it really only applys to one sex. Either which way this teacher is a sick f@#% who is a serious perv. Why he would want to know is odd but i guess some people get off on that, as disgusting as it may be…
So did he have an open bathroom policy (go when you need to) and you guys started abusing it so he shut it down? You’d do best to read your school handbook. Most schools allow teachers to set their own bathroom policies and to adjust them as needed. If he specifically mentioned periods, he’s probably sick of hearing about it. I remember a male teacher telling us that he had some girls who would use their "monthly gift" as an excuse several times a month. Give him some time to cool down. I doubt he’ll stick to it since if he’s a high school teacher, he has about 160 students, half female and won’t be interested in keeping up with 80 different menstrual cycles. If anything, he’s trying to embarrass you into staying in class and learning.
Tell your principle and if that doesn’t work then tell your parents they’ll do somethin about it!!!
My daughters teacher has tried this many of times. I have told her not to sit and wait if she needs to go to bathroom. I am against the teacher refusing the student restroom privilege’s but I also made sure she new not to abuse it. I think this teacher has gone overboard with his explanation and as far as personal info he is requiring , he’s out of line. Talk to your parents first so that they know what is going on then talk to the schools counselor . Maybe you can use the lav before you go into the class!
